Children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade participate in WUMC's Elementary ministries.

One of the primary components of our Elementary ministries is the learning of Bible stories through age-appropriate lessons involving play. Many of our lessons are based on the Godly Play Method by Jerome Berryman, which is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives.

Our Elementary ministries allow children to interact with one another in a loving and supportive environment. There are also age-appropriate opportunities for serving our community and gathering together for special celebratory events as well.

Children of all ages are always welcome in worship! In Kindergarten, children receive a storybook Bible. In 2nd Grade they receive a Young Readers Bible. In 3rd Grade they are invited to serve as an acolyte in worship.

Each week it is symbolic to light the candles as service begins, and then as service ends, take the light into the world. This is one of the earliest opportunities to serve, and we would love to have as many children to participate in this very special activity. We are always willing to train new acolytes!
