Word & Table
Sundays 9:00AM

Word & Table is a family-friendly worship service that warmly welcomes everyone.

Rooted in tradition and yet alive to the Spirit's work today, Word & Table is a liturgical service ancient and modern. Each Sunday, we sing Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; we pray together; we read and reflect upon scripture; and we celebrate communion with joyful reverence. We encounter Christ through scripture and sacrament—throughWord & Table.

Families in worship together.
In our Word & Table service, we want to create an environment hospitable to kids, youth, and families.
  • For Babies and toddlers. We set up a “soft space” in our Sanctuary for little ones and their caregivers.

  • For Kids (Pre-K & Elementary). We have activity bags and kids bulletins available that harmonize with the theme of the day. The service includes a kids moment and songs accessible for kids (and the young at heart).

  • Youth will often lead elements of the service. They are invited to volunteer as scripture readers, communion servers, musicians, etc.

An Historic Pattern of Worship

The earliest Christians gathered to proclaim God's salvation story (woven through scripture and fully revealed in Jesus Christ). They broke bread and shared wine in communion with God and one another, participating in a "Liturgy of the Word" and a "Liturgy of the Table." At Westhampton's Word & Table service we carry on this great tradition with joyful reverence.

Through the Liturgy of the Word, we invite the Word of God to speak to our hearts and minds. We gather to sing "Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs," to read Scripture, and to pray together. Then, the sermon—a meditation on the Scripture of the day—calls us to reflect more deeply on God's holy Word and consider how to apply its timeless truths to our everyday lives.

Through the Liturgy of the Table, in the breaking of bread and the sharing of wine (or grape juice), we remember Jesus Christ and his faithful, holy, unconquerable love. We pray The Great Thanksgiving, an ancient liturgy that gives thanks and praise to God, tells God's salvation story, and invites God’s presence to fill our lives anew. Finally, all are invited to Christ’s table of grace, where God meets us in love.
