Arrival

Parking is located behind the church with the lot entrance on Algoma Street.

The Sanctuary building has several entrances:

  • Enter from the parking lot into the breezeway between the Sanctuary and the Christian Education building. Turn left and follow the hallway to the Sanctuary.

  • Enter through the main doors at the top of the steps on Algoma Street

After entering the building, a Greeter or Usher will welcome you and answer any questions you may have. They will hand out bulletins and direct you into the Sanctuary. Seating is open.

Childcare

Childcare is offered for infants to elementary age children on Sunday mornings and at certain other church activities (see the event announcement to confirm). Two Childcare Assistants are present at all times.

When entering the church from the parking lot, turn right in the breezeway and go up 1 flight of stairs to the second floor Nursery.

Children are brought down to the Sanctuary in time for the Children's Message. Afterwards they return upstairs for Children's Church, a worship experience designed for young minds.

During Worship

Worship begins with announcements and a prelude to settle our hearts and minds on God. After an opening hymn and prayer, a Children's Message is given for the children, youth and young-at-heart.

Children are welcome to stay in the Sanctuary. The congregation is very tolerant of the movement and noises of infants and children.

Scripture passages are read, gifts are offered, and the concerns of the church, community, and world are prayed for. See the Worship page to learn about the current sermon series.

The service is traditional and relevant and so are the music and hymns which are typically played on organ and piano. However, other instrumental or vocal special music may involve a variety of styles.

Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month and certain special services such Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, and Christmas Eve Candlelight & Communion. WUMC celebrates an open table, so everyone is welcome to partake in the sacrament. You need not be a member of this or any other church. After receiving the elements, a candle may be lit in honor or memory of a loved one.
